Compliance with Sick Role Behavior in the B type Chronic Hepatitis Patients

Abstract

This study was done to determine the compliance of sick role behavior in the patients with B type chronic hepatitis.
The subjects were 62 patients with B type chronic hepatitis who visited to OPD at Chonnam National University Hospital and the Christian Hospital in Kwangju City. Data were gathered from June 10, to September 30, 1988 through interviews using a questionnaire. The study instrument was developed by the investigator, and were tested for content validity by one nursing professor, two nurses, two physicians, three B type chronic hepatitis patients, and reliability by item analysis was Cronbach's alpha=.76. Analysis of data was done by t-test and ANOVA. The results may be summarized as follows: 1. The average score of compliance with sick role behavior in the patients of B type chronic hepatitis was significantly higher in those of higher education than lower education(p=.05), and higher in those of deskworkers than laborers or housewives (p<.001). 2. The level of compliance with sick role behavior in the patients of B type chronic hepatitis was 71.8%. 3. The score of dietary compliance was higher in the patients of younger than those over 40 years old (p<.05).
4. In the deskworkers when they had anorexia, showed more effort to eat food than in those of laborers or housewives (p<.05). 5. The score of compliance for rest was higher in the patients of housewives or deskworkers than those of laborers (p<.01).
