Small Intestinal Perforation as a Complication of Henoch-Schonlein Purpura

Abstract

Henoch-Schonlein purpura, also known as a anaphylactoid purpura, is a clinically defined disease associated with systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology. This disorder is characterized by non-thrombocy- topenic purpura, non-destructive arthritis, glomerulonephritis with mesangial immunoglobulin A (IgA) deposition and gastrointestinal allergy occur in 29-69% of patients, although surgical treatment is rarely necessary. We described here an unusual case of a small intestinal perforation as a complication of Henoch-Schonlein purpura.
