A Case of Massive Ovarian Edema

Abstract

Massive ovarian edema was very rare disease in young women and tumor-like condition that marked enlargement of one or both ovaries by an accumulation of edema fluid in the stroma, separating normal follicular structures. The cause and pathogenesis of massive ovarian edema still remains unclear. The most likely mechanism for the development of such a condition is interference with lymphatic drainage and venous return, probably caused by partial torsion of the mesovarium. A 22-year-old woman who has suffered from right lower abdominal pain during seven days was performed right salpingooophorectomy under the impression of right ovarian tumor with torsion. Histopathological study demonstrated the 19x13x8.5 cm sized huge solid mass to be massive ovarian mass. Hereby we report this case with the brief review of literature.
