Perinatal Aspects of Non-Obstetric Operation during Pregnancy

Abstract

The clinical courses and pregnancy outcomes of the parturients who underwent nonobstetric operation during pregnancy were reviewed. Between 1983 and 1997, 103 women had nonobstetric operation during the pregnancy and 57 were births and 41 were aborted or chosen the elective terminations. The indications for nonobstetric operation were the gynecologic disorders including ovarian cyst, condyloma, myoma and cervical dysplasia (59.2%), the general surgical disorders mainly appendicitis (31.1%) and others as the trauma especially followed by traffic accident (9.7%). The perinatal mortality rate did not increased in the women undergoing nonobstetric operation, compared with control group which were not taken the operation during the pregnancy and delivered between 1992 and 1996 in our hospital. But the risk of preterm delivery increased in the nonobstetric operation during the pregnancy than control group. The further studies will be required to assess the use of tocolysis and to establish the management of traffic accident to the parturients.
