A Case of Huge Hepatic Cyst Treated by One-Shot Instillation of Minocycline Chloride

Abstract

Hepatic cysts are usually asymptomatic and require no treatment. Their presence is detected incidentally by ultrasound or computed tomography, but occasionally some of them become large enough to cause symptom. Aspiration of cystic fluid alone, surgical intervention or instillation of various sclerosing agents has been performed. There have been few case reports of hepatic cysts treated successfully by aspiration and injection of minocycline chloride. We experienced a successful treatment of a huge (24 cm in diameter) hepatic cyst by aspiration and one-shot instillation of minocycline chloride. After cystie fluid was aspirated with pig tail catheter, minocycline chloride (500 mg in 10 ml of 1% Lidocaine) was instillated into the hepatic cyst. Six months after the treatment, fluid did not reaccumulate and regressed mostly. Here, we report a case of successful sclerotherapy of huge symptomatic hepatic cyst with one shot instillation of minocycline chloride,
