A Case of Metastatic Hemangiopericytoma of the Pancreas

Abstract

Hemangiopericytoma (HPC) is a rare vascular tumor, mainly composed of pericytes. The tumor occurs commonly between the fourth and sixth decades of life and presents with a painless, gradually enlarging soft tissue mass. The majority of HPCs are originated from the lower extremities, pelvis or retroperitoneum, but some of them occur anywhere capillaries are found. HPC involving pancreas is extremely rare in worldwide and only several cases have been reported. We experienced a case of metastatic hemangiopericytoma of the pancreas in a 48-year-old woman, who had been diagnosed as left thigh hemangiopericytoma ten years ago and received wide excision. To our knowledge, this is the first report of hemangiopericytoma involving pancreas as a metastatic disease in Korea.
