Abstract
- Recurrent ovarian endometrioma poses a difficult clinical problem to gynecologists. Repeated surgery carries increased risk of injury to pelvic organ and may cause decreasing ovarian reserve. Also, medical treatment can not be applied to patient who wants to conceive. To overcome these disadvantages of two traditional treatment methods, ultrasound-guided aspiration and sclerotherapy of ovarian endometrioma have been proposed. This procedure is considered safe and less invasive, but there are some risks like adhesion formation and high recurrence rate. Also, the effects of sclerotherapy to ovarian function and the results of ART are relatively unclear still now. This article will review the effects, method and side effects of aspiration and sclerotherapy of ovarian endometriomas.
