Abstract

A horseshoe kidney occurs in 0.2 to 1 percent of autopsies, as such, represents a common anomaly. It is a result of fusion of the upper or lower pole of the kidneys occurring between 4 and 6 weeks of fetal development, before the kidneys have migrated upward and rotated on their long axis.
