Abstract

A case of ruptured aneurysm in the cerebral artery in a patient with established systemic lupus erythematosus is presented. A 28-year-old woman with a 1-year history of systemic lupus erythematosus was found to have a ruptured saccular cerebral aneurysm at the bifurcation of the left MCA with a fusiform dilatation at the top of the basilar artery. The ruptured aneurysm was treated surgically. Cerebral aneurysms associated with systemic lupus erythematosus are reviewed in the literature and the pathogenesis of these aneurysms is discussed.
