Abstract
- Osteosarcoma is the most common malignant tumor of bone. However, it is relatively rare in the head and neck region and the most predilection site of head and neck is mandible, followed by maxilla. Osteosarcoma of the head and neck occurs in mainly third and fourth decade and has equal sex predilection. Compared with osteosarcoma of the extremity, head and neck osteosarcoma tend to be of lower histologic grade and metastasize less frequently and has more favorable prognosis. Complete excision offers the only realistic chance for cure and can be combined with radiation therapy or chemotherapy depending on histologic grade, surgical margin, and recurrence. We report a case of osteosarcoma in maxilla with a review of literatures.
