Abstract

Among the patients who were treated with phacoemulsification and posterior chamber intraocular lens(PC-IOL) implantation by one surgeon, we divided 65 patients(77 eyes) into sutureless group(44eyes) and central interrupted one suture group(33 eyes). All of the patients were treated with 6.0 - 6.7MM scleral pocket incision for the 6.0 - 6.5MM optic PC-IOL implatation. The postoperative astigmatism and complications were measured and ana lysed for six months. In sutureless group, mean astigmatic change swere 0.10 D(S.D:0.98) with-the-rule at two days, 0.20 D(S.D:0.84) against-the-rule at two months, whereelse, in one stitch group, 0.15D(S.D:0.86) against-the-rule at two days, 0.65 D(S.D:1.23) against-the-rule at two months. And there was no significant difference between two groups in postoperative astigmatic changes. The incidence of complication such as hyphema, iris prolapse and transient filtering bleb was five cases(11.36%) in sutureless group, 1 case(3.03%) in one stitch group. We concluded that the central interrupted one stitch suture for large PMMA PC-IOL implantation in large scleral pocket incision did not affect the against the rule astigmatic changes, but it reduced the incidence of complication.
