A Case of Multiple Mucinous Cystadenocarcinoma of Pancreas Combined with Splenic Vein Occlusion
Abstract
-
The mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of pancreas is a rare malignant cystic tumor. It is filled with tenaceous mucus and arises from malignant transformation of long-standing mucinous cystadenoma. Mucinous cystadenocarcinomas usually exist as single macrocystic mass. It is also known that stretching or involvement of the splenic vein by pancreatic cystic tumor can occlude splenic vein and can cause extrahepatic or left-sided portal hypertension. Recently, we experienced a case of mucinous cystadenocarcinoma which existed as multiple cytic type and caused the splenic vein occlusion. To our.'knowledge, this is the first case in Korea. The patient was 60-year-old woman with epigastric pain. Abdominal CT scan and ulrasonography showed multiple cystic masses in the body and tail of pancreas. The venous phase of celiac angiography revealed prominent collateral veins in the abscence of splenic vein. The surgical specimen showed mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of pancreas.
