Silicone Intubation for Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction in Adult

Abstract

When patients do not want surgery or their general condition is poor, silicone intubation for management of nasolacrimal duct obstruction in adults can be considered as an alternative to dacryocystorhinostomy. The advantages of this procedure is technically easy, less traumatic and restoration of original nasolacrimal duct. 24 eyes of 21 adult patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction were treated by silicone intubation. After a follow-up period of 8-19 months(mean 13.2 months), the overall success rate was 58.3%. Complications in orkinal order included: dacryocystitis, corneal erosion, prolapse of silicone tube and, lid infection.
