Abstract

28 stress urinary incontinence patients were treated using the modified Stamey`s procedure with the percutaneous nephrostomy needle, during the period from June 1984 to July 1987. Duration of operation was about 1 hour and the mean days of urethral Foley catheter removal was 3.5 days after operation. 6.4 days were required to restore the normal voiding pattern. During 18.8 months follow-up only two cases recurred however, they were successfully treated using the same procedure. The overall success rate was 93%. The presence of previous vaginal and abdominal hysterectomy did not influence the operability and prevalence of postoperative complications were minimal. Therefore, endoscopic suspension of bladder neck is simple and effective means treating stress urinary incontinence.
