A Case of Congenital Unilateral Multicystic Kidney with Congenital Megacolon

Abstract

The multicystic dysplastic kidney is extreme type of dysplastic kidney and the most frequent cause of neonatal abdominal masses which were found by prenatal ultrasonography. Recently in Korea, diagnosis of multicystic kidney is increasing as prenatal ultrasonography becomes more popular. In congenital megacolon, which is the term often applied to Hirschsprung`s disease, colonic dilatation results from functional obstruction owing to congenital absence of the intramural and submucosal neural plexuses. Unilateral multicystic kidney with congenital megacolon is rare case of congenital anomalies and associated with urinary tract and other anomalies. Herein, we report a case of left multicystic kidney combined with congenital megacolon based on clinical and radiological and pathological findings.
