Clinical Observation on Renal Tuberculosis

Abstract

A clinical observation was made on 54 cases of renal tuberculosis admitted to the Department of Urology, Korea General Hospital during the period from Jan., 1971., to Dec., 1977 and the following results were obtained. 1. Among the 810 cases of urologic in-patient, 54 cases were renal tuberculosis, 30 cases were male and 24 cases were female. 2. 31 cases out of 54, belonged to the age group of 20 to 39. 3. Both kidneys were affected in 6 cases, while 27 cases in right side only and 21 cases in left kidney. 4. Initial symptoms were mostly those of vesical symptoms such as the followings ( 38.9 % : frequency, hematuria and dysuria . 5. Urinalysis revealed hematuria in 57.4 %, pyuria in 70.4 % and proteinuria in 81.5 %. 6. Tubercle bacilli were demonstrated by stain ( 18.5 %) 7. The I. V. P. findings in 54 cases of renal tuberculosis were non-visualization in 40.7 % moth eaten appearance in 31.5%, calyectasis in 25.9% and etc. while those of contralateral kidney, ureter and bladder were hydrone phronephrosis in 14.8% and normal in 51.8%. 8. Nephrectomy was performed in 29 cases out of 54 cases of renal tuberculosis and nephrostomy was done in 1 case, nephrectomy, ureteral tailuring and ileocystoplasty in 1 case, and ureterocutaneostomy in 1 case.
