Ureteral Tumors: Clinical Report of Four Cases

Abstract

Three cases of primary and a case of secondary ureteral tumors have been reported and their clinical findings evaluated. The clinical and radiographic findings are summarized below: 1) Sex: Males. 4. 2) Age: Youngest, 38 ; oldest, 72 ; average, 55. 3) Symptoms: Duration varied from 3 days to 8 months. Hematuria was present in 3 cases, pain in 2 cases, and palpable kidney mass in a case. 4) The side: Left, 3 cases ; right, 1 case. 5) The site: In the lower third, 2 cases ; in the middle third, 1 case; in the upper third, 1 case 6) Pathological findings on affected side: Non-functioning kidney disclosed by excretory urography in 3 cases ; ureteral dilatation and hydronephrosis by antegrade pyelography or retrograde urography in 2 cases ; filling defect of ureter on 1 case and marked and irregular narrowing of ureter on 1 case ; and the appearance of tumor tissue in the orifice with jet of urine on cystoscopy in 1 case. 7) Treatment: Nephrourecterectomy including a case of removal of bladder cuff on 3 cases. Significance of various diagnostic procedures has been stressed.
