Abstract

Cholesterol crystals in body fluids reveal a characteristic shimmering gold paint appearance. This finding was reported in pleural effusion, synovial fluid, ovarian cyst, ascites, anterior chamber of the eye and lung tissue. Pleural effusion with cholesterol crystals was infrequently observed. Most of the cases were found in patients with long standing pleural effusion due to chronic inflammatory diseases. We have seen a case of cholesterol crystals in pleural effusion from 36 year-old man with old pulmonary tuberculosis.
