Abstract

Surveys for external quality assessment in blood bank tests were carried out in 1998. The response rate was 90.6% for 1st trial, 80.6% for 2nd trial, and 79.1% for 3rd trial. Test items were ABO cell and serum groupings, Rho(D) typing. Cross-matching, direct antiglobulin test, antibody screening and identification test. Du test and Rh subtyping were newly included in the test items at 3rd trial. The average accuracy rates of ABO cell and serum grouping were more than 99.8% and 98.7% respectively. The accuracy rates of Rho(D) typing were more than 99.9% for positive samples, 99.5% for negative ones, but 42.4% for Du positive samples. The average accuracy rates of cross-matching were 88.3% for compatible samples, 98.7% for incompatible samples which could be detected by saline method, and 80.8% for incompatible samples which could be detected only by 37degrees C albumin. The accuracy rates of direct antiglobulin test were 98.3% for negative samples and less than 80% for positive samples. The accuracy rates of antibody screening test were 95.5% and those of antibody identification were 98.8%. The accuracy rates of Rh subtyping were 97.2%
