Abstract

Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a curved Gram-negative halophilic organism commonly associated with outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis and sometimes wound infections. It is an uncommon cause of bacteremia. We have experienced a case of bacteremia due to Vibrio parahaemolyticus in a 61 year old man who initially come in with fever and chilling. He was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, and gastric ulcer. On Hospital day 1, Vibrio parahaemolyticus was isolated from blood culture.
