Dermatomyositis

Abstract

15 year old girl with pale and chronically ill appearance, complained of lilac violet colored, non pitting facial edema, knee joint pain and swallowing difficulty for 1 month duration. She was unable to walk herself and raising her arms on her first visit to st. Mary hospital, because of muscle weakness and wasting. Laboratory findings revealed elevated S.G.O.T., elevated urinary creatine and decrease urinary creatinine. X-ray finding showed deossification on the shoulder. muscle biopsy showed fibrinoid degeneration, loss of striation, separation of muscle fiber, hyalinization, perivascular and interst.itial chronic cell infiltration and vacuolization. The skin and lymphnode biopsy showed non-specific chronic inflammatory cell infiltration. Underlying disease was not found. She had been taken steroid and tocopherol and there was moderate improvement.
