Three Cases of Small Hepatocellular Carcinoma Treated with Percutaneous Microwave Coagulation Therapy
Abstract
-
Remarkable advances in diagnostic imaging modalities, the wide use of screening of high risk groups and advances in minimally invasive local therapies enable to discern small hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Thus, treatment of HCC have been greatly improved. Transcatheter arterial embolization and percutaneous ethanol injection therapy have been performed as therapeutic alternatives to surgery, leading to good results. Recently, the utilization of microwave coagulation therapy for HCC has been studied. The treatment of unresectable HCC by an ultrasonically guided percutaneous microwave coagulation therapy (PMCT) and laparoscopic microwave coagulation have been reported. Recently, we performed PMCT on three patients with small unresectable HCC due to underlying liver cirrhosis. We report these cases with a review of the literatures.
