Cryptorchidism is one of the most common malformations encountered in males, and orchiopexy is frequent operation performed by urologic surgeons. Herein, a clinical observation was done on 272 cases and 343 testicles of cryptorchid patients operated in the department of Urology, Keimyung University School of Medicine, Taegu, Korea. Follow-up study of fertility was made on 20 cryptorchid patients with age older than 15 years. The results were as follows : 1. Number of cases operated at the age below 2 years was 15(15.5%). 2. Among 272 cases, 71 cases(26.1%) were bilateral, and 201 unilateral cases(73.9%) revealed right side predominance(p<0.05). 3. Among 343 undescended testicles, 52 testicles(15.2%) were impalpable and 308 testicles (89.8%) were palpated in canalicular location while operating. 4. Associated anomalies were found in 11 cases(4.0%) and 2 cases with upper urinary tract anomalies in 93 consecutive IVP were noted. 5. In 5 cases following unilateral orchiopexy, mean testicular volume of pexed testis(9.3cc) was less than the half of contralateral descended testis. 6. Follow-up semen analysis of 13 unilateral cases at age older than 15 years revealed normospermia in 11 cases and oligospermia in 2 cases. 2 bilateral cases revealed azoospermia.
