Abstract
- The prostatic volume may provide important information for patient counselling, diagnosis, and treatment of prostate disease, but little is known about this measure in younger men. We studied prostatic volume with transrectal ultrasonography, measured by the elliptical method, in 435 patients aged 20 to 49 with prostatitis (N=260) or prostatodynia (N=175). The mean age for the entire group was 34 years; the mean for the prostatitis group was 33 years and that for the prostatodynia group and 22.2 cc in the prostatodynia group, the prostatic volume of the normal population might be more similar to that of the prostatitis group. In this group, the largest width, height, and length of the prostate gland were 43.9 mm, 23.7 mm, and 37.0 mm, respectively. The mean peostatic voiume was 19.4 cc at 20 to 29 years of age, 20.6 cc at 30 to 39 years, and 20.8 cc at 40 to 49 years.
