Abstract

OBJECTIVE
To investigate the oxygen consumption and temporospatial data according to types of cerebral palsy (CP) and to offer the basic information about the energy expenditure during gait in adults with CP. METHOD: Thirty-six adults with CP (11 spastic diplegia, 10 spastic hemiplegia, 15 athetoid type) and 24 healthy subjects were participated in this study. The parameters of energy expenditure were evaluated by KB1-C Oxymeter and temporospatial parameters during 8 meter walking were collected using Vicon 370 motion analyzer. RESULTS: Single support time was significantly decreased and double support time was significantly increased in CP spastic diplegia, compared with controls (p<0.05). Oxygen rate and oxygen cost were significantly higher in CP spastic diplegia than CP atheoid or controls. CONCLUSION: We could identify that oxygen consumption and temporospatial data of CP spastic diplegia was significantly different from athetoid or normal controls.
