Abstract

A 24-year-old male presented clinically as an asymptomatic tumor-like nodule associated with superficial multiple hemorrhagic papules on the right retromolar area. A histological examination revealed acanthotic epithelium and dilated lymphatic vessels in the submucosa together with a proliferation of mucous salivary gland tissue. The clinical and histological features were compatible with those of lymphangiectasis or acquired lymphangioma and adenomatoid hyperplasia of the minor salivary glands. This patient had past history of third molar extraction 2 years ago. The exact nature of this lesion is not known, but obstruction of the lymph vessels due to a pervious tooth extraction has been suggested as a possible cause. In addition, local trauma may play a role of the pathogenesis of adenomatoid hyperplasia of the minor salivary glands.
