Effect of papaverine paste on normal subjects

Abstract

The effect of 60 per cent papaverine paste applied to the penile shaft of 40 normal subjects was evaluated in a placebo controlled double-blind study under laboratory conditions. After application of papaverine paste or a placebo ointment base, penile erection was recorded by Rigiscan(R) while subjects viewed an erotic video presentation for 1 hour. Relative to the placebo ointment base the average of rigidity and change of maximal tumescence after papaverine paste were not significantly different(p more than 0.05). But we think that the application of papaverine paste to impotent patients and modification of other agent will be necessary.
