A case of Juvenile Diabetic Coma

Abstract

We experienced a case of Juvenile diabetes mellites with coma in a 20-month-old male baby. On admission, he was comatous and markedly dehydrated and he illustrated Kussmaul respiration. Laboratory data showed 750mg% of blood suggar and 4+ of urine sugar. Just after admission, fluid theraphy and insulin therapy were started. Twenty four hours after therapy, he awoke from unconsciousness and general condition was improved. His symptoms and signs were controlled with 16 U/day of regular insulin. On 7th hospital day, regular insulin was replaced to 14 U to N.P.H. On 26th day, he discharged with control with 9 U of N.P.H. The case is presented with brief review of literature.
