Analysis of the Urinary Calculi by X-ray Diffraction Method

Abstract

The exact analysis of urinary calculi is very important to study of the etiology of calculus formation, prevention of recurrence and medical treatment. X-ray diffraction method is a newer approach to the analysis of urinary calculi. This method was recommended due to speed, accuracy and convenience. We have analyzed 32 urinary calculi by X-ray diffraction method. The following results were obtained. 1. Mixed calculus ie slight more than single calculus. (1:1.46) 2. The most common type of calculi is hydroxyapatite + calcium oxalate. (56.3%) 3. In the calcium oxalate. mixed calculi with calcium oxalate monohydrate and calcium oxalate dihydrate are more than pure calcium oxalate monohydrate. (1:4.5) 4. The common type of calculi in the kidney is calcium oxalate and calcium oxalate + hydroxyapatite in the ureter. 5. Percentage of urinary infection is 37.8% in all patients who have urinary calculi.
