A Clinical Observation on Injuries of Genitourinary Tract

Abstract

A clinical observation was made on the injuries of genitourinary tract of the in-patient during the period from January, 1978 to March, 1982. The results were as follows: 1. Of 1457 cases hospitalized, 148 cases were injury of genitourinary tract, giving a ratio of 10.1%. 2. The most prevalent age was 5th decade for 26.6% and the next was 3rd decade for 24.3%. The sex ratio, male to female was 5.2:1. 3. Fall down was the most fequent cause of the injury (34.6%) and the next was traffic accident (30.1%). In detail, traffic accident was the most frequent cause of renal injury. Fall down was the most frequent cause of bladder and urethral injury. The kick and blow was most frequent cause of external genitalia. The most ureteral injury was introgenic. 4. The urethra was involved most frequently in 37.9%, the kidney in 24.8%, the bladder in 18.3%, the externalgenitalia in 16.3% and the ureter in 2.7%. 5. 23 of 58 urethral injuries (39.7%) and 8 of 28 bladder injuries (28.6%) were accompanied with pelvic bone fracture. 6. Operation was performed in 15 cases of 38 renal injuries(Nephrectomy 10, I & D 3, renorraphy 1, omentalpatch graft 1).
