Response on Doctor's Clothing Style

Abstract


OBJECTIVE
Clothing style of doctor influences much of the doctor-patient relationship. The aim of this study was to determine the response on clothing style of doctor with psychiatric patients & non- psychiatric patients. Especially, we tried tries to find out the preference about doctor's clothing style between psychiatric patients & non-psychiatric patients. METHOD: Psychiatric outpatients(N=100) were selected among those who visited Chonnam National University Hospital & Chosun University Hospitalas an experimental group. The controll group was selected among the non-psychiatric outpatients (N=100) those who visited both hospital. Reserch method is statistic analysis of collected data gained by direct interview. questionare includes tension, preference, satisfaction according to doctor's cloth style. RESULT: Generally, psychiatric patients & non-psychiatric patients prefer white coat to private cloth. but psychatric patients (37%) have higher preference than non-psychiatric patients (21%) when doctor put on private cloth. Psychiatric patients said that they were reduced tension on private cloth.
CONCLUSION
Generally, patients recognize that white coat was natural clothing style of doctor which influence doctor-patient relationship. psychiatric patients not only prefer white coat but also feel comfort to private cloth.
