Comparison of Audiovisually Stimulated and Nocturnal Penile Erection

Abstract
- We compared the results of the audiovisually stimulated erection(AVSE) test with those of the nocturnal penile erection(NPE) test using the Rigiscan(R) in 30 impotent men. Although it is assumed to be more physiologic, the AVSE test had more false-negative findings, and the penile rigidity was greater in the NPE test in both psychogenically and organically impotent patients. The AVSE test can be used selectively as a screening test for impotence. The NPE test can be used when the AVSE shows abnormal findings.
