Trend of Medical Researches in Korea: On the Field of Obesity

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Medical research is changing to rapidly and more complicated way. It needs huge amount of academical and economical supports, too. Before we design new medical research, we have to get more informations from the previous researches.
METHODS
Study materials were original text of about 380,000 articles from over 600 journals recruited by MedRIC (Medical Research Information Center) at Chungbuk National University from 2001 to 2005. The search was done by using terms of obesity in Korean.
RESULTS
A total 377 of articles were found from search of KMbase, and they were analysed. The total number of articles were decreased according to year, the most popular journal that articles about obesity was 'The Korean Journal of Obesity'. Most articles (31.8%) were published in the journal that was not registered any where. Original articles were 73% and review articles were 24%. Most of original articles were written by co-workers (78.7%), but most of review articles were written by single worker (84.6%). The most popular major of researchers was Family Medicine, and the most popular method of research was cross-sectional study. The most popular word of key word was 'Body Mass Index', the majority of articles were researches about treatment, pathophysiology and psychology of the obesity.
CONCLUSION
Medical researches in the Korea is developing by numbers and by the quality. If we can get more informations from the analysis of the previous researches, we can do more qualified researches.
