A Case of Rat Mite Dermatitis
Abstract
- We report a patient with dermatitis caused by the bite of Omithonyssus bacoti (Hirst, 1913), commonIy referred to as the tropical rat mite. The bite of this mite resulted in a severely pruritic papular eruption in our patient, 32 year old Korean housewife, and her two daughters. We found the mites on the patients skin and also on dead rats captured from the patients house. Though we think that the rat mite d.ermatitis is not infrequent disease, we are going to report the case because the people are apt to overlook the disease and it can become an occupational hazard.
