Clinical Observation of Subdural Effusion

Abstract

63 cases with subdual effusion who had been admitted to the pediatric department of Hanyang university hospital from May 1972 to July 1977. And following result was obtained.
1) Among 63xases, Age distribution of patients were under 6 months of age with peak incidence under one month of age (82.5%). Sex incidence revealed a male predominance with the ratio of 4 : 1
2) The chief complaints on admission were as follows fever (47.6%), Poor sucking (30.1%), Jaundice (30.1%), Vomiting (20.5%), Dyspnea(17.4%), Irritability(17.4%).
3) 28 cases had abnormal findings in transillumination (65%) among 48 cases, exudate in 13 cases, hemorrhage in 2 cases, 2 of them showed H. influenza, 2 D. pneumonia, 1 N. meningoeocci, 1 L-hemolytic streptococci.
4) The etiologic factor of subdural effusion was thought: Birth injury in 34 cases (54.1%) infection in 13 cases (20.6%), idiopathic in 14 cases (22.2%).
5) 10of these 62 cases were expired and motality rate was 15.8%
