Abstract
- Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) is a distinct tumor of odontogenic origin. This tumor is a benign, noninvasive lesion with a slow but progressive growth. Three types of AOT have been reported: follicular, extrafollicular, and peripheral. The follicular and extrafollicular variants are both intrabony or central tumors and account for approximately 96% of all AOTs. Concerning the distribution of AOT, the usual site is the anterior maxilla. And the impacted tooth most frequently found in association with the follicular AOT is the canine. The maxillary canines alone account for 40% cases of the follicular type. Contrary to this there have been a few reports of AOT involving the paranasal sinuses. This report describes AOT arising from the impacted upper third molar, which was expanding into the maxillary sinus.
