Abstract

Duodenal diverticula are relatively common in adults with a prevalence of 5~23% in general population. Most of diverticula are asymptomatic and incidentally observed in upper gastrointestinal series or upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, but a small fraction develop complications such as choledocholithiasis, cholangitis, recurrent pancreatitis, diverticulitis, perforation and hemorrhage. Among these complications, upper gastrointestinal bleeding from diverticulum is rare and experiences of endoscopic therapy were limited. With the advance of endoscopic therapy, several cases which were treated by endoscopic hemostatic methods have been reported. We present a patient with bleeding from a duodenal diverticulum, which was diagnosed by endoscopy and successfully treated with the hemoclip technique. Endoscopic therapy was a useful primary treatment modality for this relatively rare case.
