Abstract

Guillain-Barre syndrome(GBS) was reported by Landry in 1859. GBS, called acute inflammatory polyneuritis, is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks parts of the his or her own peripheral nervous system. The GBS is characterized by symmetrical rapidly ascending paralysis that ocasionally leads to respiratory embarrassment and death. The causes and mechanisms of this syndrome are unknown yet. The typical GBS could be diagnosed by the patient's symptoms and physical exams like rapid onset of weakness, paralysis and loss of reflex. For the diagnosis of the analysis of CSF and electrical test of nerve and muscle function can be performed. Most of casese usually occur shortly after viral infection. It is not sure, but plasma exchange, intravenous immunoglobulin, and corticosteroids are generally used for the treatment of GBS. This is a case report of a patient with GBS. He was in accidently coincident with tooth extraction of right mandible 3rd molar. The patient had a past history of acute collitis and influenza before tooth extraction.
